Kate Buhrke, DO
Kate Buhrke, DO is a physician, writer, dedicated mother to two dogs, and voracious consumer of books and media. She stepped away from surgical training after realizing there is more to life than just surviving medicine. Time spent rock climbing, skiing, practicing yoga, and being present with family outside of medicine recalibrated her sense of what really matters. She is soft, silly, emotional, and believes those qualities have a rightful place in medicine. She is also part of the LGBTQ+ community and is committed to propping up queer voices, visibility, and rights in medicine- especially in spaces where they have historically been marginalized. At Hippocratic Collective, she helps have honest, vulnerable conversations and curate physician-led creative work for people who refuse to flatten themselves to fit the current system. She’s read too much Nietzsche, drank too much espresso, and is ready to dismantle modern residency culture.
