For three days, a private cohort of 6–8 surgeons will step completely out of performance mode and into structured cognitive and narrative recalibration inside a full buyout of Juvet Landscape Hotel in the Norwegian fjords.
There are no outside guests, no shared common areas, and no ambient interruptions. The container is held entirely for this group and for this expansive work.

You are one thought away from the life you want.
High-performing surgeons rarely lack capability. What often limits expansion is inherited thought architecture: beliefs and narratives adopted unconsciously over years of training and performance.
Over three immersive days, you will examine the beliefs shaping your trajectory, the narratives limiting expansion, the physiology of thought and emotion, and the cognitive architecture required to build your second mountain. This is structured, precise, executive-level work. It is not motivational. It is not abstract. It is applied.
Surgery demands perfection. But behind the mask, many surgeons carry self-doubt, burnout, and the feeling that no matter how much they achieve, it’s never enough.
Cognitive Recalibration
Led by Mel Thacker
- Deconstructing inherited belief systems
- Understanding emotional physiology and performance states
- Rebuilding thought architecture with precision
- Designing your “second mountain” intentionally
This is executive-level work.
Structured. Applied. Exacting.
Narrative & Identity Work
Led by Frances Mei Hardin, MD
Your life is not random. It is a story you have not been taught how to read.
Most surgeons are still operating inside a narrative that was built for survival:
- Be excellent
- Don’t get rejected
- Don’t fall behind
- Don’t be seen too clearly
That story gets you through training.
It will not get you where you actually want to go.
In this immersive writer’s workshop, you will learn how to:
- See your life through narrative structure (the hero’s journey)
- Identify the roles you’ve unconsciously taken on
- Reframe conflict, failure, and opposition as threshold guardians
- Extract meaning and direction from your own lived experience
- Begin deliberately authoring what comes next
This is not about becoming a writer. It is about becoming someone who can think clearly about their own life.
Because narrative is not superfluous.
The Experience Includes:
- Full private hotel buyout
- Three nights in architectural landscape rooms
- Seasonal, locally sourced culinary immersion
- Bathhouse access (hot tub + steam sauna overlooking the river)
- Dedicated programming space
- Lifetime ESG Online access ($5,000 value)
- 90-minute private 1:1 session with Mel
- A curated international cohort of surgeons
Juvet Landscape Hotel is a privately owned architectural property built directly into the Norwegian forest along the Valldøla River. The design is deliberate and restrained: a collection of modern glass structures positioned within untouched landscape, each suite oriented toward river, stone, and sky. Floor-to-ceiling glass replaces walls. Interiors are minimalist and quiet. The architecture does not compete with the surroundings; it dissolves into them.
For three days, the entire property is reserved exclusively for ESG. There are no outside guests, no shared public traffic, and no ambient hotel noise. Hospital staff, administrators, and patients cannot find you here. The distance is both physical and psychological. This environment creates the space required for deep cognitive work. For once, the focus is entirely on you.

This retreat is intentionally small. A handpicked group of 6-8 surgeons committed to real growth. No lectures, no posturing, no superficial networking — just honest connection and a shared commitment to becoming the surgeon you were meant to be.
- A transformed self-concept: confidence rooted in clarity, not ego
- Tools to sustain your energy and identity beyond the OR
- Connections with surgeons who are done playing by the old rules
